A Brief History
The Mapleton Chorale was founded in 1994 by a small group* of Mapleton residents with a love for choral music and a desire to rehearse and perform a broader repertoire than generally found in a traditional church setting. This dedicated community choir seeks musical excellence in every piece, and enjoys singing a variety of music including classical, spirituals, folk songs, sacred hymns, and popular tunes.
The Mapleton Chorale cultivated its unique style and reputation for audience pleasing musical selections originally under the skilled direction of Ryan Murphy, followed by Andrew Crane. Now under the tutelage of director Cory Mendenhall, the chorale has grown to more than 80 singers from throughout Utah Valley. Under Mr. Mendenhall's careful leadership, the chorale has further refined its sound and expanded its repertoire.
The chorale also encompasses a 20 to 28 voice auditioned chamber ensemble that rehearses separately and performs one or two pieces per concert. The chorale generally performs with varied instrumental accompaniment in addition to piano and organ, and has been enthusiastically received at Temple Square Christmas performances, as well as Christmas and spring concerts in Mapleton, Springville, Spanish Fork and Provo.
*The original founders were Suzie Judd, Hal & Dianna Black, Steve Roden, Sherrie Dunford, and Julie Gailey.
